Walter S. Gasper from Hamill Manufacturing Wins NTMA National Apprenticeship Competition

GF AgieCharmilles would like to congratulate Walter S. Gasper from Hamill Manufacturing of the Pittsburgh NTMA chapter for winning the 38th Annual NTMA National Apprentice Competion, hosted by the NTMA Indiana Chapter and Ivy Tech Community College on June 9-12, 2010. Regional champions from around the U.S. competed to determine the “Best of the Best” in an intense competition involving projects in lathe, mill, precision grinding, and a comprehensive exam.
As employer of the first place champion, Hamill Manufacturing Company will receive the GRAND PRIZE, sponsored by GF AgieCharmilles for the 20th consecutive year. Depending on the package chosen, the total value of the grand prize can total up to $100,000.
For over two decades, GF AgieCharmilles has demonstrated leadership in the manufacturing industry by consistently communicating the importance of a skilled workforce, and has provided useful tools to help the industry understand the challenges and implement programs to educate and train workers. Through web resources, PowerPoint presentations, comprehensive directories of EDM courses, a career opportunities chart and more, the company provides a wide variety of support materials for community colleges, guidance counselors, shop managers and students.
Additionally, GF AgieCharmilles conducts nationwide presentations on the importance of careers in manufacturing and regularly provides discounted wire EDM machines to training centers and schools. GF AgieCharmilles Chairman Emeritus, Harry Moser, is active in various organizations that strongly support the skilled workforce initiative, including serving on the boards of the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) and the National Council for Advanced Manufacturing (NACFAM), and leading the Education Team at NTMA.
